Does Tiger Woods Have a Right to Privacy?
In the continuing drama over his car accident last week, Tiger Woods released a statement on Wednesday apologizing to his family and supporters after a magazine article reported that he had carried on multiple affairs.
No matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy. I realize there are some who don’t share my view on that. But for me, the virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one’s own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn’t have to mean public confessions.
But in the age of the Internet, when the media is not just traditional mainstream press or even the tabloids, but bloggers and twitterers, is a claim of privacy even possible? And is there a difference between a public figure and a well-known figure when it comes to privacy?

i think that ever one should have their own privacy. i dont think that people would like u staring at them in the bathroom. and if he texts his frineds i dont think that his hot wife should be able to look at all of his texts messages and his pictures on his phone.
ReplyDeleteI think that tiger deserves his privacy. People do what tiger did to his wife every day. I’m not saying what he did was right. Though, I don’t think its anyone’s business. This is tiger and his wife’s problem. It shouldn’t be the people of America’s problem. I think people need to lay off and let tiger alone. He is most likely going through a lot right now and doesn’t need the whole world talking about it.
ReplyDeleteI think that all these people should just leave Tiger Woods alone. What he does as a golfer and his personal life are completely different. I'm not saying that what he did was good, i'm just saying that people should stay out of his business. I think that the difference between a public figure and a well known figure when it comes to privacy is that well known figures don't always ask for publicity.
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone deserves privacy, even Tiger Woods. Just because he is a well-known figure doesnt mean that the press or media needs to get into his personal business. I mean if one day i did something wrong, i dont expect papparazi to be showing up on my doorstep trying to get the inside scoop.
ReplyDeletePrivacy is a big deal to people because they dont want everyone in their business and spreading it around to everyone. Its just not right
I personally believe that Tiger Woods does not deserve privacy now that it was discovered he was having an affair. He is out in the public getting glory and basking in his fame as a great golfer, but when it comes to the time that he commits an unacceptable adulterous action he decides that he wants no part if the media attention and he is struggling to gain privacy on the fact that he cheated on his wife with several other women. I believe that there is a huge difference between celebrity privacy and and people who are not well known. Celebrities are always in the spotlight for the good things they do, so when they do something bad the public deserves to know about that as well.
ReplyDeleteyes he should have his privicy , everyone shoulod but he is supposed to be a role modl but he doesnt act like it having affairs
ReplyDeletei think that tiger woods has his right to privacy as much as any other american citzen. as for him wrecking his car, it should be like any other person who wrecks their car. you clean it up release the news and leave it at that. you dont have to make it a big deal and expose more about the guy than need be. this is a little more dramatic than it needs to be.
