2/19/10 - Digital_Nation Question 1

According to the latest Kaiser Family Foundation data, 8- to 18-year-olds are spending more than 50 hours a week with digital media. That's more than a full work week.

Is this too much?  Are kids today actually hurting themselves by using this much digital media?  Why or why not?

  1. Kids are not hurting themselves using technology because technology helps them get through life easier. They are not always doing homework. They are communicating with friends and just being teenagers....

  2. i donto think they are hurting themselves by doing this but i do think they should cut down more on the time they spend on their phones and laptops. Also i think that they should have a better schedule and time for their studies and then for their phones and laptops. If their grades are really going down then maybe that person should stop doing whtat they are doing.

  4. Is 50 hours a week to long with all the technology we pocess? I don’t think it is that long considering that more than ¾ of man made objects relie on electricity or being alble to do multiply tasks at once. We are cabable of such adcheivement to earn our pocession of cell phones, music, ipods, and everything else. We do deserve a 50 hours a day if we can fit it into our day.

  5. Kids are not hurting themselves by doing this, it may interfere with other things that they need to do, but they are not hurting themselves by doing this. It is a lot of time for using the digital media, but if you have the time to do it then it's okay. But it is your decision whether or not you want to use the time with digital media. Many things we use today are meida devices so not everyone is spendig all there time on the device.

  6. I think that cell phones and other forms of technology that help talk to people are good, though some people take these items and over use them. When your with a group of people and you cant have a conversation because your nose is buried in your phone I think its un called for. So in some cases phones and email are good. But in other cases not so much.

  10. I dont think that 50 hours a week are bad becuase almost everything we use requires some type of electronic. Almost evrything we do is used by an electronic device other weis we wouldnt be able to do the things we do.
