Week 4 Current Events - Sports II

What do you think of the controversy surrounding this female soccer player?  Would the reaction to her actions have been different if she were male?  What does all the attention put on her say about the power of YouTube and other social media?  Is this a good or bad thing?  Explain.

    I think the controversy surrounding this soccer player is that people think that they're being to hard on her because she's a woman. I think that she should have the same punishment as a man. All the attetnion she is getting is from her video being posted on youtube. This shows that youtube is very good at creating celeberities. I think that that is a bad thing because a lot of people become celeberities for stupid reasons.

    yes, it wouldnt be all over the news if it was a man who did it. because it was a girl everyone is going to make a big deal out of it. it was a girl everyone so get over it. although a girl did it, it was mean to do it but she was mad and even if she wasnt mad the girl shouldnt have pulled on her shorts to get her mad. and maybe she has anger issuse. and she cant control in the game because she wants to win.

    i do belive she would be treated much diffrently if she were male. though youtube and social networking is a good thing it must be monitered to a extent to make sure certan things are not let out to the public.

    I think that it is so unacceptable. This girl is out of control! I can’t believe anyone could be that mean and harmful towards others. I don’t think she should go to jail or anything. Though, I do think she should be banned from the soccer league until she gets some help with handling her anger and aggression. Also I don’t think just because she is a girl is why she is getting into a lot of trouble. I think anyone that man or women that would do that would be equally punished.

    colton- i think that if she would of been a guy no one would of cared but id say that youtube has some power because people have already made fake movies of her and this is just gona make her more famous so its kinda a bad thing for her now but in about a year she will be famous probley.

    i think that she should just be suspended because her actions were pretty bad and unnessicary. and i think they shouldnt post this stuff online because she is only a college studednt and she just needs to learn not to take her anger out in such a hostile way.

    What she did was wrong i think, there wasnt really a need for her to pull people down by there hair or punch and kick them intentionally. If it were a man that did it i think there would not be as much attention focused on it. It would probably still have some attention focused on it but not as much as the girl doing it. From it being put on youtube it really got it out into the world and got it talked about, and now people are making there own videos about it. It does let people know whats going on though so it has good but also bad advantages to it. Just depends on the way you look at it.

    I think that this soccer player should keep her emotions under control. I mean if it was one time that a different story but several times including ripping another player down by yanking on her hair is way over the top. If she were a male i think the outcome would be different. I think the other guy would have fought back and not let this person do that to them.
    I also think that the people making YouTube videos should calm down a little bit because they are taking things too far.

    I think she really over reacted she shouldnt of pulled her hair and start all that. I think that it would deffinitally been different if it was a guy that did all that than her.All this power and stuff just says that you tube is pretty powerful and that there is a lot of people thta get on there and get news and stuff.I think its a bad thing because why would anyone wont to be known like that on youtube and get all those comments about urself.

    i think taht she should of done all of that because there is noo need it is just a game and she needs to treat it like a game. Yes i agree that girl shouldnt of pulled her shorts but she still did over react to it and i dont htink its right at all
